OEM DEPARTMENT FAQs

Can you design a radiator to meet specific cooling requirements?

Listed below are typical questions regarding cooling specifications that we recieve followed by our replies:
  • Q: Our units are going to be in operation in South America in ambient conditions of 130 Degree F. Can you please design a radiator, which will meet these cooling requirements?
  • A: Certainly, we will need the horsepower rating of your engine, the engine flow rate and the heat rejection to coolant rate. We will then conduct our rating system analysis, using PSU programming to determine how much heat rejection the radiator will dissipate and the volume of air (CFM) required to achieve the desired cooling levels. Once the calculations are complete, we will fax you a copy.

  • Q: Our forklift has been overheating; we have maximized the height and width of the radiator. Unfortunately we cannot go any bigger. What options do we have to rectify this overheating problem?
  • A: We have several options. Depending on the environment, we can alter the fin style to achieve more cooling. Our Louvered fin configuration is the best performing fin, if we implement this fin style we can gain 10 - 15% more cooling efficiency. We can also increase the fins per inch on the core itself to give the core more surface area. The implementation of ãdimpled tubingä will allow for turbulent flow through the radiator and thus adding more cooling efficiency. Upon doing our rating calculations, we can also advise changes to the fan to increase airflow and efficiency.

Can you modify an existing radiator to increase performance?

Listed below are questions and answers dealing with radiator modification for increased performance:
  • Q: We find that we are loosing valued air off the fan tips Is there anything we can do about that?
  • A: Yes, Cancore can redesign the shroud an implement a 1ä steel ring around the diameter to better capture the air. We can also change the shroud to a ãventuriä configuration to enhance the funneling of the air to the core.

  • Q: We have noticed that the current radiators we are purchasing from over seas are not withstanding the impact, ruggedness of the terrain in which our customers are operating in. Currently we our mounting the radiators by the side frames, what options do we have to better increase the durability of the radiator on our units.
  • A: If the side frames must mount the radiator, Cancore has the capability of increasing the material thickness. We can implement higher gauge rails with welded extensions to the tanks. Cancore would also recommend, if possible to change the mounting structure from the side rail to a carriage bolt rubber mounted mechanism. If there is tremendous vibration occurring, the carriage bolts on the bottom tanks isolated with rubber mounts allow for maximum vibration and stress capability.

  • Q: We need our hydraulic oil cooled but are limited with space to allow for a separate auxiliary oil cooler to be mounted in our application. What alternative do you suggest we investigate.
  • A: We recommend going with a bottom in tank plate or bundle cooler configuration. By placing this cooler in the bottom tank, you will get the required oil cooling without using up any addition valuable space. Our plate coolers come in aluminum and stainless steel configurations. For applications with limited pressure tolerance, we also have concentric coolers, which are mounted, in the bottom tanks.

  • Q: How long has Cancore been in business?
  • A: Cancore has been operating for 35 Years as a manufacturer and warehouse distributor.

  • Q: Does Cancore handle special, customized core requests?
  • A: Absolutely and we consider ourselves to have the quickest turnaround time in the industry for these requirements. On average, we can tool up, and have an industrial flat-fin core completed in 4 hours. Specials are available in CT copper style, and Flat-Fin copper or steel style.

  • Q: Are your complete radiators all copper/brass units?
  • A: No, in fact we supply aluminum units where the Original Equipment assembly is aluminum. All complete radiators are built to meet or exceed OEM specifications.

  • Q: Where is your distribution facility?
  • A: Our distribution facility is located at:
    Cancore Industries Inc
    624 Parkdale Ave. N.
    Hamilton, Ontario
    Canada, L8H 5Z3
    Phone: (905) 549-4181, (800) 263-9950
    Fax: (905) 549-1317

  • Q: Can Cancore supply older, classic/antique radiators and heater cores??
  • A: If we don't have the application in our parts look-up catalog, we can manufacture the product by getting the specifications from original unit. If the original unit is not available, Cancore will require dimensions and mounting specifications to complete the unit, including core, tanks, connections, and properly positioned mounts.
